Delegates to the 2024 UUA General Assembly voted to adopt the Action of Immediate Witness: Solidarity with Palestinians, which called for a list of actions including to "sign, amplify, and carry out the Apartheid-Free Communities Pledge". There are now more than 500 organizations that have signed this pledge, inspired by the movement to dismantle apartheid in South Africa and with the goal of dismantling systems that oppress Palestinians.
Now you can sign up for a powerful webinar hosted by UUs for Justice in the Middle East, featuring people from the first UU congregations that have signed the historic Apartheid-Free Communities pledge. Hear their testimonies about why they were inspired to follow this path. Find out how they lovingly built consensus and momentum, lessons learned, helpful resources, and what is being planned to live out the pledge as communities. Speakers are members of the first three UU congregations to sign the pledge: All Souls UU Church of Shreveport, Louisiana; Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists (California); and First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco. Recently another congregation has voted to adopt the pledge, and more are scheduled to vote s0on, so additional attendees may provide updates.
